      HITS Announces Next Generation Quantum Platform

      HITS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Comcast Cable, has announced an upgrade to the HITS Quantum Platform. The next generation of the platform, which supports existing MPEG-2 infrastructure, includes converting several HITS standard definition (SD) transponders to DVB-S2 technology, increasing the number of HD services offered in MPEG 2, and delivering the entire programming lineup via a single satellite.

      The HITS Q2 upgrade improves the efficiency of MPEG-2 services, allowing operators to use their existing technology as well as update their equipment at a lower cost than other plant upgrade.
       

      TeleCommunication Systems Introduces Cloud-Based, High-Volume Messaging Service

      TeleCommunication Systems (TCS) has introduced its Cloud Messaging Service, which delivers short message service (SMS) messages over 2G, 3G and LTE networks. Since TCS’ new service is hosted in the cloud, it minimizes the purchase of new hardware and software, as well as to reduce operating costs associated with non-stop operation.
       

      Communications & Power Industries (CPI) Receives $6 Million in Ka-band Satcom Amplifiers

      Communications & Power Industries (CPI) has received a new order worth $6 million in Ka-band high-power satcom amplifiers. According to CPI, an international customer will use the amplifiers in gateway Earth stations to support high-throughput satellite (HTS) services.

      CPI’s Satcom Division will manufacture the 500-watt Ka-band traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs), with shipments for this program expected to continue into mid-2014.
