Azur Space to Build Solar Panels for Sierra Nevada’s Dream Chaser

Sierra Nevada has selected Azur Space to provide solar panels for its first Dream Chaser spacecraft. The Dream Chaser is scheduled to provide cargo services to and from the International Space Station (ISS) for at least six missions between 2019 and 2024 as part of NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services Contract (CRS2).

Azur Space will manufacture the 3G30C-Advanced solar cells at its facilities in Heilbronn, Germany. For Azur Space, the space equipment business of Airbus Defense and Space will produce the completed solar panels in Ottobrunn, Germany.

Owned and operated by Sierra Nevada, the Dream Chaser spacecraft is a reusable, multi-mission space utility vehicle. It is capable of transportation services to and from Low Earth Orbit (LEO), where the International Space Station (ISS) resides. All Dream Chaser CRS2 cargo missions are planned to land at Kennedy Space Center’s Shuttle Landing Facility.
