Roscosmos Inspects Construction at Vostochny Cosmodrome

[Via Satellite 10-17-2014] Oleg Ostapenko, the head of the Russian Space Agency Roscosmos, recently visited the Vostochny Cosmodrome in the Amur region of Russia. During his visit he evaluated progress on the future spaceport’s technical complexes for rockets, the substation power supply system, and the industrial and construction base. Ostapenko also swung by the Tsiolkovsky residential district to gauge construction on the town where spaceport staff will live.

Roscosmos has laid out a plan to finish the Soyuz-2 complex by 2015, with the creation of a complex for Angara rockets by 2020. Stretching further into the future, by 2030 the spaceport is intended to support a “super-heavy class” rocket. In an attempt to expedite progress, Ostapenko has been making regular visits throughout the year and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin has committed to monthly visits.
