[Satellite TODAY 04-30-12] Thales Alenia Space Deutschland has signed a contract with Thales Alenia Space France to develop and validate operations and provide payload data generators and a Satellite Simulator (SATSIM) for the Meteosat Third-Generation (MTG) weather satellites, the companies announced April 27.

The Thales Satellite Simulator (SATSIM) will serve as a designed a real-time numerical model of the space segment and of the space-to-ground interface of the MTG’s telemetry and tele-command systems. It also will be used by Eumetsat to develop its ground segment and prepare the satellites operations.
The Payload Data Generator is a simulation tool to be used by Eumetsat for verification and validation for the MTG’s ground segment.
“This contract illustrates Thales Alenia Space’s willingness to further develop highly skilled competences in the satellites simulators and ground segments areas in Germany taking the opportunity of the excellent partnership developed by France and Germany for MTG,” Thales Alenia Space CEO Reynald Seznec said in a statement.
