France’s 2011 Space Industry Revenues Remain Flat from 2010

By Jeffrey Hill | April 9, 2012

[Satellite TODAY 04-09-12] French revenues declined last year in the space industry export and global satellite telecommunications markets, as France posted a national space industry revenue intake of 4.2 billion euros ($5.5 billion) that was flat compared to 2010, The French Aerospace Industries Association (GIFAS) announced in an April 4 report.

The French space sector employs approximately 13,000 people. Revenue from France’s 2011 commercial sales were divided equally between orders from domestic French customers and those from international customers, according to GIFAS.

French satellite and rocket manufacturers account for about half of Europe’s total space revenue. Nearly two-thirds of French space sales are commercial orders for either satellites or launch vehicles sold by Arianespace.
