[Satellite TODAY 03-30-12] SpaceX has assembled a team of outside experts to form an independent safety advisory panel that will oversee the company’s human spaceflight system, SpaceX announced March 29.

The company said its new panel would provide objective assessments of the safety of the Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 launch vehicle to help SpaceX maintain the highest level of safety.
The panel, which will convene this fall, includes former NASA Astronauts Leroy Chiao, Mark Kelly and Edward Lu, along with Former NASA Ames Research Center Director Scott Hubbard and Former Chief of Medicine for NASA Johnson Space Center Richard Jennings.
“When it comes to manned spaceflight, safety is our top priority,” SpaceX CEO and Chief Designer Elon Musk said in a statement. “These experts will provide us with important insights as we prepare to carry astronauts on the next-generation of American spacecraft.”
