General Dynamics Wins NASA’s Space Network Ground Segment Option

By Jeffrey Hill | March 7, 2011

[Satellite TODAY 03-07-11] NASA awarded an option for the Space Network Expansion-East to General Dynamics C4 Systems under the agency’s Space Network Ground Segment sustainment contract awarded in June, the agency announced March 4.
The ground segment supports NASA tracking and data relay satellites that comprise the space segment. The network aims to provide the resources for global space-to-ground telecommunications and tracking coverage for low and near-Earth orbit robotic and human spaceflight missions.
Under the option, General Dynamics will implement the ground segment at NASA’s ground terminal in Blossom Point, Md., to enable the network to continue to deliver services and meet requirements. The cost-plus-award fee, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity option is valued at about $32.7 million, with a performance period through September 2015.
