[Satellite TODAY 07-09-10] NASA has awarded a crew robotics and vehicle equipment work contract to ATK Space Systems, the agency announced July 8.
ATK was among three contract winners. Oceaneering International and the University of Alabama at Birmingham also won contracts, which hold a combined value up to $70 million, running through June 2015.
The performance-based contract award involves the development of spacewalk activity equipment, spacecraft flight crew equipment, crew health and conditioning systems, spacewalk robotics equipment, environmental control and life support equipment, active thermal control systems, avionics equipment and ground support systems.
The work will be conducted at various NASA, contractor and subcontractor facilities. ATK said they were awarded the contract as a result of a full and open private sector competition. The University of Alabama contract was awarded based on a competition open to educational and nonprofit institutions.
