SSTL Reveals NigeriaSat-2, NigeriaSat-X Launch Date

      [Satellite TODAY 05-13-10] Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. (SSTL) will launch the NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X satellites for the Nigerian National Space Research and Development Agency Oct. 29, SSTL announced May 12.
          NigeriaSat-2 will be launched aboard a Dnepr rocket. The spacecraft, based SSTL-300i platform, will be used primarily for resource management and mapping of the Nigerian territory.
          SSTL built two optical payloads on NigeriaSat-2, designed to work with the spacecraft platform and provide multi-mode operation for spot imaging, strip imaging, area mode imaging and stereo mode imaging.
          NigeriaSat-X will be launched into the Disaster Monitoring Constellation, where it will assist with disaster relief and global environmental monitoring campaigns alongside satellites from other consortium members from Algeria, China, Spain and the United Kingdom.
