[Satellite Today 07-03-09] WorldView-2, DigitalGlobe‘s high-resolution multi-spectral satellite, will be placed in orbit Oct. 6 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., the company announced June 30.
WorldView-2 will join DigitalGlobe’s two other high-resolution satellites — QuickBird and WorldView-1 — and is expected to nearly double the compays collection capabilities to about 2 million square kilometers per day, enabling intra-day revisits to specific geographic areas and enhance the company’s ability to collect up-to-date imagery in those areas of greatest interest to its customers.
WorldView-2 is expected to be able to collect imagery at 0.46 meter resolution. However, due to U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association license restrictions, all imagery will be re-sampled to 0.5 meter resolution unless the U.S. government has granted a customer-specific waiver of the restriction, DigitalGlobe said.
