GeoEye Downplays Satellite Imagery Glitch in SEC Filing

By Staff Writer | June 5, 2009

[Satellite Today 06-05-09] GeoEye projected that an issue with its GeoEye-1 satellite, which occurred in May causing portions of its imagery to lack color when collected in a particular operating mode, will not have serious impact on revenues, the company announced June 4 in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The imagery company said that even under the worst case, the impact will be less than 5 percent of projected revenue. GeoEye added that the issue does not affect the ability of the satellite to continue to fulfil requirements for the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and other customers.
“The technical analysis is ongoing and currently points to a small segment of the focal plane electronics within the camera,” GeoEye reported in the filing.
