Crossing the Emerging, Developed Market Threshold

Can Latin America still be considered an emerging market? Or, has it already reached the technical and financial level of developed markets? At what point does a region cross the threshold? Let's take a look at where Latin America stands as a market. Revenues have increased consequently in emerging digital markets in the recent past. In 2011, they increased by 26 percent, with Latin America leading the way. The growing number of value-added services offered in the regions favors revenue growth and enables platforms to better apprehend competition. Traditional oil and markets, such as the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico, are now increasingly complemented by growing satcom demand in Latin America.
In the video market, pay-TV operator DirecTV’s U.S. business only contributed 81,000 subscribers to the 2012 first quarter add-on tally, while DirecTV Latin America supplied the remaining 593,000 customers. A substantial portion of DirecTV Latin America’s new subscribers are signing up for pre-paid services and about 65 percent of gross additions in Brazil came from middle-market segment. Now, companies like MNLA are introducing Ka-band services to a wide variety of verticals. Does this sound like an emerging market to you?
