South American Enterprise Sector Leading Region's Economic Charge

On top of being one of the world's fastest growing major economies, Brazil, the world's fifth largest country, both by geographical area and by population, is also the world's eighth largest economy by nominal GDP and the seventh largest by purchasing power. What’s even more fascinating is that in 2010, set a new world record in terms of the total value of corporate mergers and acquisitions at $115 billion in transactions. One of the most significant transactions of last year came when Brazilian Cia Vale do Rio Doce acquired Inco, a mining company, in a tender offer valued at $18.9 billion.

This e-letter presents a few case samples that provide examples of both private and public investments – from Chinese government influence to commercial satellite capacity movements and trends in demand. Our readers should expect the spotlight on Latin America to shine a bit brighter over the next 12 months.
