Lufthansa Launches In-Flight Broadband Service

German airline Lufthansa has launched its broadband service, FlyNet, on long-haul flights. 

Lufthansa worked with long-standing partners Panasonic Avionics Corp. and Deutsche Telekom to develop this service, which initially will be provided on selected North Atlantic routes and be available on nearly the entire Lufthansa intercontinental network by the end of 2011.

Internet surfing will be free until the end of January. Following the introductory period, customers will be able to access the service for one hour or 3,500 miles for 10.95 euros ($14.44) or 3,500 miles or for 24 hours or 7,000 miles for 19.95 euros ($26.32). Under the 24-hour flat rate agreement, passengers can access the Internet on all Lufthansa connecting flights equipped with a hotspot during the period of validity as well as after the flight in Lufthansa lounges.
