INDUSTRY NEWS ViaSat Unveils Multi-Channel HD Video EncoderViaSat Enerdyne, a supplier of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) data links, has released a multi-channel HD video encoder, which allows an IP-based data link to transmit H.264 compressed, HS full-motion video, the company announced Aug. 3.
ViaSat’s EnerLinksTM HD encoder is designed to meet the environmental constraints of tactical unmanned systems and is compatible with ISR sensors. The encoder can simultaneously compress one to two streams of HD video or one to four streams of SD video.

In a statement, ViaSat Enerdyne General Manager Steve Gardner said the unit’s MPEG-2 transport stream output lowers risk when integrating it with existing IP-compliant data links. “The EnerLinks HD Encoder is data link agnostic. It’s an ideal front end to advanced ISR applications that call for high definition video and require CDL as the data link.”
