Consider the unique situation that the current economic climate has put the satellite broadband sector in – On one hand, securing financing for large, ambitious growth strategies and building new infrastructure is much more difficult to obtain. At the same time, President Obama, by signing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, pledges $7.2 billion in government financing to bring broadband Internet to rural areas. Market research also provides a riddle with its analysis – consumers are spending less money on electronics, but not getting rid of their broadband Internet connections. In fact, the demand for broadband Internet bandwidth continues to skyrocket as more people stay home, downloading their favorite television shows and movies to save money on going out.

This unique situation calls for unique business models. The broadband business plans that were thrown out following the onset of the financial crisis in October may have to be dusted off and revamped with the addition of the government’s stimulus and the demands of a market that now regards broadband Internet as an essential utility.
