[Via Satellite 11-14-13] Following the launch of its Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has chosen Arianespace to launch its Gsat 15 and Gsat 16 telecommunications satellites. Both satellites are to be launched using the Ariane 5 vehicle from the Guiana Space Center in the French Guiana.

“With these two new satellites, Arianespace has now signed all GTO launch contracts this year for commercial satellites in the three-ton class,” said Stéphane Israël, chairman and CEO, Arianespace.

The Gsat 15 and Gsat 16 satellites, designed, assembled and integrated by ISRO, will each weigh approximately 3,150 kg at launch. They are designed to provide C- and Ku-band telecommunications services including VSAT transmissions, TV broadcasting and emergency communications.
