By Jeffrey Hill | June 14, 2012

[Satellite TODAY 06-14-12] Kuwaiti operator Gulfsat has signed a capacity lease for the Eutelsat 8 West A satellite at the 8 degrees West orbital slot, the satellite’s operator Eutelsat announced June 13.

The new multi-year lease secures Gulfsat’s fourth transponder with Eutelsat and supports its effort to acquire long-term access to satellite resources with premium reach over the Middle East.
“This new contract adds further weight to the strong partnerships that Eutelsat nurtures with key players across the Middle East. It opens the door to further development of premium broadcast channels at the 8 degrees West platform whose proximity to our 7 degrees West neighborhood facilitates DTH reception of more than 540 TV channels,” Eutelsat CCO Jean-François Leprince-Ringuet said in a statement.
