Ciel Receives Spectrum Boost In Canada

[Satellite Today – 07-10-08] Ciel Satellite Group received approval from the Canadian government to develop several orbital slots, SES, the primary shareholder of Ciel, said July 9.
    Industry Canada issued Ciel approvals to develop the following spectrum  Ka-band fixed satellite services at 91° West and 109.2° West;17-giagahertz broadcast satellite services at 91° West, 103° West and 107.3° West; and 12-gigahertz broadcast satellite services at 138° West. 
“We are pleased that the efforts to commercially develop these opportunities can now begin in earnest, and we look forward to meeting the growing need for next-generation satellite facilities in Canada and abroad,” Dave Lewis, CEO and president of Ciel, said in a statement.
    The approvals were part of 12 new licenses announced by Industry Canada in June 2007.
