[Satellite Today – 7-01-08] SES New Skies signed a capacity deal with one of India’s largest media companies, SES New Skies said July 1.
SES New Skies signed a multi-year, multi-transponder agreement with the Essel Group for C-band satellite capacity to support the digitalization of India’s cable infrastructure. The Essel Group is one of India’s largest media companies with interests in broadcasting (Zee TV), direct to home (Dish TV) and cable networking (WWIL). The satellite capacity will be used to support a new digital headend-in-the-sky platform to distribute pay-TV signals to cable headends serving millions of Indian homes.
The agreement initially covers capacity on NSS-703 at 57° East and transitioning to NSS-12 in 2009. The capacity required for the project will ramp up to six transponders throughout a five-year period, SES New Skies said. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
