Viasat Sees Subscriber Numbers Fall

By Staff Writer | February 15, 2008

[Satellite Today – 2-15-08] Viasat Broadcasting has seen its satellite pay-TV subscriber base fall in the Nordic region. This was one of the highlights of its full year and fourth quarter results issued Feb. 14. The operator, a subsidiary owned by the Modern Times Group (MTG), at the end of December had 714,000 premium DTH subscribers in the Nordic region. At the end of Sept., it had 717,000 subscribers so it has seen a fall in subscriber numbers in the last three months of 2007.
It appears that in the Nordic region, subscriber numbers for satellite pay-TV have now peaked. Its DTH rival in the region, Canal Digital also lost subscribers between September and December last year.
