By Staff Writer | January 9, 2008

[Satellite Today – 1-9-08] Wegener Corp. has received an order from satellite service provider Telesat to launch non-linear programming services in Canada, Wegener announced Jan. 9.
Wegener equipment, which will augment Telesat’s existing video distribution network, will include the iPump media servers and Compel network control system. The media servers will be used to record live legislative proceedings for specific Canadian regions and distribute them to remote communities within the region. Content owners will remotely control content playback by accessing individual iPump media servers via a web-interface.
“File-based broadcasting allows operators to time-shift, regionalize and re-broadcast programs on a site by site basis with minimum bandwidth expenditure. Securing this order underscores growing market demand for the iPump/Compel solution,” stated Ned Mountain, president and chief operating officer of Wegener. “We’re excited to support Telesat’s launch of this important new non-linear service offering.”
Financial details of the order were not disclosed.
