Sirius Surpasses 8.3 Million Subscribers

[Satellite Today — 1-3-08] Sirius Satellite Radio added 2.3 million net subscribers during 2007 to close the year with a total of 8.3 million subscribers, the company announced Jan. 3.
    “Sirius’ subscriber base increased 38 percent in 2007, and our gross subscriber additions in 2007 were the highest in the history of satellite radio,” Mel Karmazin, the company’s CEO, said in a statement. “… Based upon preliminary financial data, we expect to report significantly greater positive free cash flow in the fourth quarter of 2007 than the company reported in the fourth quarter of 2006.”
    Sirius, which is awaiting the U.S. government’s decision on its proposed merger with rival XM Satellite Radio, plans to release 2007 financial results and 2008 guidance in February.
