By Staff Writer | August 21, 2007

[8/21/07 – Satellite Today] Time Warner Cable has deployed a video-on-demand (VOD) solution for small markets based on technology from Tandberg Television, Tandberg announced Aug. 21.

Tandberg’s OpenStream digital services platform allows Time Warner to manage VOD services from its headquarters in Denver and deliver content via satellite distribution to cities throughout the United States. The OpenStream system incorporates Tandberg’s MediaPath secure content delivery system and asset management system, which enables cable companies to deploy on-demand services using satellite catcher technology and a mix of VOD servers, applications, billing systems and set-top components.

Time Warner also will use Tandberg’s Xport Producer to provide local on-demand content tailored to each location. Four markets – Clarksburg, W. Va.; Dothan, Ala.; Fort Benning, Ga.; and Terre Haute, Ind. – are live, and Time Warner plans to expand services to 10 additional cities by the end of the year.
