By Rachel Scharmann | April 11, 2014

[Via Satellite 04-11-2014] Envivio introduced a new G5 family of Intel-based server appliances. The new G5 series supports Ultra-HD resolution and High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), increases compression density, and is expected to decrease operating expenses for service providers.

Operators using the Envivio Muse Live encoders on the G5 platform can distribute up to 100 high quality SD channels, or 20 HD channels, in a Two Rack Unit (2RU) configuration. Compared to the previous Envivio appliances, this generation of G5 appliances could reduce rack space requirements by up to 40 percent and power consumption by more than 30 percent.

Two families of servers will be available with the G5 series: the G5 1000 (1RU) and G5 2000 (2RU). The 2000 series will feature a modular hot-swappable multi-node architecture, offering ease of upgrades and greater scalability.
