[Via Satellite 04-10-2014] SatLink Communications has launched a new second generation Digital Video Broadcasting – Satellite (DVB-S2) platform on Eutelsat’s Hot Bird satellite. The new platform will support Sky Italia, an Italian digital satellite TV platform, and will support the delivery of HD content to cable, satellite and pay-TV markets in Europe.

The Hot Bird platform will provide the uplink capabilities to SatLink’s centers in Israel and will enable the simultaneous broadcast of a signal using multiple encryption and decryption systems.

The new DVB-S2 platform offers more bandwidth capacity, with more Mbps in a specific space segment for transmission of HD content. Hot Bird currently hosts more than 600 pay TV channels.
