DirecTV Reports Strong Third Quarter, Latin American Growth

[Satellite Today 11-06-08] DirecTV saw its total revenues increase 15 percent to nearly $5 billion in its third quarter 2008 financial report released Nov. 6.
The company’s Latin America revenues increased 49 percent to $658 Million.
    DirecTV’s Operating Profit Before Depreciation and Amortization (OPBDA) increased 25 percent to over $1.2 billion with U.S. OPBDA growing 16 percent to over $1.0 billion and Latin America OPBDA nearly doubling to $208 million.
    Net income increased 14 percent to $363 million and earnings per share increased 22 percent to $0.33 compared with the same period last year.
Chase Carey, president and CEO of DirecTV highlighted other figures in the report.
    "DirecTV U.S.’ cash flow before interest and taxes grew 85 percent to nearly $600 million as the strong revenue and operating profit growth was combined with a 31 percent decline in capital expenditures,” said Carey.
    Carey attributed subscriber growth in Latin America to particularly strong developments in Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela.
