Canalsat Releases Latest Subscriber Figures

[Satellite Today 09-01-08] French DTH platform Canalsat reported 5.2 million subscribers at the end of June, parent company Vivendi announced Sept. 1.
    Canalsat part of Vivendi’s Canal+ Group, is the largest satellite pay-TV operator in France. At the end of June, 80 percent of TPS subscribers have been transferred to the Canalsat platform confirming the goal of having a single platform by the end of 2008. The two platforms were combined by Vivendi Universal in 2006.

    There is interesting pay-TV competition in France with France Telecom (Orange) making a strong early impact in the television market. At the end of June, France Telecom has close to 1.4 million subscribers for its IPTV service, Orange TV.
