AEPOC Demands More in Piracy Fight

By Staff Writer | April 18, 2008

[Satellite Today – 4-18-08] AEPOC (the European Association for the Protection of Encrypted Works and Services) believes more needs to be done to fight smart card piracy in Europe. The organization, which has many satellite pay-TV operators as members, said April 17 that it wants “substantial amendments” to the European CA Directive. AEPOC says the directive is a positive step, but believes there is room for improvement in many areas.
Separately, the organization said that Davide Rossi will remain its secretary general. The news is a huge boost to Rossi, as an official document issued by the Public Prosecution Office in Italy and following an investigation of the Italian fiscal police against pay-TV piracy in Sicily mentioned Rossi, amongst 132 other unnamed individuals, as a possible ‘external supporter’ of a local TV hacker.  Despite this, AEPOC has given Rossi a vote of confidence to continue his work with AEPOC.
