SES Sirius Begins Operations

[Satellite Today – 1-30-08] The Sirius 4 satellite is operational and has taken over all transmissions from Sirius 2 and Sirius 3, SES Sirius announced Jan. 30.
    The Sirius 4 satellite, built by Lockheed Martin, has been installed at its final position at 4.8° East and is expected to play a pivotal role in the operator’s strategy, to be at the forefront of offering high-definition (HD) services in the Nordic region and Eastern Europe.
     “The demand for HD channels will increase sharply in the years ahead, and we operators need to be prepared in terms of capacity,” Håkan Sjödin, managing director of SES Sirius, said in a statement.
