[Satellite TODAY 08-16-10] Harbinger Capital subsidiary LightSquared has selected software management firm Siterra to manage the deployment, installation, operation and maintenance of its LTE 4G network, LightSquared announced Aug. 13.
Siterra will utilize its flagship product Siterra Plus to help LightSquared build out the network while providing management visibility on how its capital is being deployed.
In July, Harbinger Capital signed an eight-year, $7 billion contract with Nokia Siemens Networks to build and operate a 4G LTE satellite and mobile broadband network for wireless providers which will rely on satellites and terrestrial spectrum that Harbinger acquired through its $280 million purchase of SkyTerra in March.
According to the terms of LightSquared’s license with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, the company’s network must achieve coverage of 100 million customers by the end of 2012, 145 million by the end of 2013 and 260 million by the end of 2015. These coverage rates do not include satellite coverage.
