[Via Satellite 05-09-2014] Spot, LLC, a subsidiary of Globalstar, announced that its Spot satellite messaging and information technology products have been used in 3,000 rescues around the world since the company’s launch in 2007. There are more than 200,000 Spot units in service, averaging about a rescue a day.

Spot technologies allow users to track assets using location-based messaging and emergency notification technology so that they can make calls beyond cellular boundaries. Spot products operate throughout the continental United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Australia, areas of South America, Northern Africa, North-Eastern Asia and thousands of miles offshore in these regions.

The 3,000threscue was in the Hayman Fire area in Central Colorado, where two dirt bikers were outside cell range when an accident occurred. One of the riders activated the SOS button on his Spot Satellite GPS Messenger, and the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center was alerted.
